Ongoing Activities
BICYCLING: Enjoy a group Bicycle ride on a selected Cape Cod route.
BOOK DISCUSSION: Over 40 members participate in 4 book groups that each hold monthly meetings in members' homes. There is a maximum size of 12 members in each group to allow each member to participate in the discussion, and to comfortably accommodate members in the host's homes. If the book group memberships are full, the Club will start a new book group when six members are interested.
BOWLING (MIXED): This popular activity is candlepin bowling (i.e. 'the small balls') and the group consists of 50+ bowlers, both singles and couples. The 35 week season runs from early September to May on Mondays at 1:00PM at the Ryan Family Amusement Center, Route 28, So Yarmouth. At the end of the season, there is an awards banquet. Substitutes, who may not be able to attend each week, are always welcome!
BRIDGE (ROUND ROBIN): Bridge players are welcome to our Round Robin (Chicago style) bridge 6 times a year, on your schedule, at your own home. The cost is $10 per couple. We will attempt to compile a list of those that do not have partners, and forward it to those interested. Arranging whom to partner with is up to the participant.
DINE-IN: This group meets in a host/hostess' home on selected Saturday evenings of each month beginning in September and ending in June. Although encouraged, it is not necessary to attend every dinner. The scheduled host/hostess will have two or three additional couples/singles to their home and will provide the main course and beverages. The guests will be asked to bring a salad, appetizer, or dessert. This is a great chance to get to know other members in a casual intimate setting. There is always good food and lively conversation. Often, acquaintances met at these dinners turn into good friends.
GOLF: This coed group meets Tuesdays during the summer for low stress golf and lunch at Holly Ridge.
KAYAKING: Cape Cod has many great places for kayaking. Past trips have included Middle Pond in Marstons Mills, Scorton Creek in Sandwich, Barnstable Harbor, and the Centerville River. This Activity typically has kayaking adventures June through September
MAHJONG: This game is rapidly gaining popularity in the United States. It originated in China hundreds of years ago. Groups of 3 or 4 can play. There are usually two tables (8 players) who play at a time. Currently we have about 9 nine players who join in the fun, taking turns hosting at members’ homes. If there is more interest, we will consider beginning a second mahjong group.
MOVIE DISCUSSION: The movie discussion group meets monthly in the media room at the Everleigh apartment complex in Hyannis. Members gather there to watch and discuss a movie, and offer suggestions for a movie for the next month's viewing. This year we will have a different theme each month!
PICKLEBALL: This activity meets Wednesdays at noon at the town courts. Members are supportive and everyone is welcome. We can help you get started if you want to find out why this is the most popular "racquet" on the Cape.
THE SOCIABLES: This activity meets the first Sunday of the month for lunch/brunch at a restaurant chosen by the group.
TABLE TENNIS: This group meets on Tuesdays at 9:15 am at the Hyannis Youth Recreation Center.
WALKERS: This Activity includes walks categorized as easy to moderate and take place at a variety of locations on the Cape. The length of the walks varies and participants will be advised of the approximate length and place before each scheduled walk.

Club Support Activities
The following people are so important to support the workings of the Newcomers Club. The coordinators of all of our activities are always in need of help, so please reach out if you can assist in any way! The best way to make friends and to benefit from the BNC is to GET INVOLVED!!!
PLANNING BOARD: Meets every month to jointly plan meetings, events and club activities. All members are welcome to attend the planning meetings.
HOSPITALITY: Our Hospitality Coordinate arranges for refreshments to be served at our regular monthly meetings. We are always in need of volunteers to bring a dessert to each monthly BNC meeting. To volunteer to bring a dessert or to help with refreshments, please fill out the sign-up sheet available at each monthly BNC meeting.
PUBLICITY: Two of our members coordinate publicity for Newcomers events. They also work with Club members who belong to other organizations in the community to increase awareness of the Barnstable Newcomers Club and what it has to offer our residents. If you need publicity assistance, or would like to help, let one of the Club Officers know.
SUNSHINE: If you know of a Club member who is ill, had an accident, or passed away, please let our Sunshine Fund coordinators know and they will send the appropriate card. We also make a donation from the Club to the charity of choice indicated by a deceased member's family.
